Happiness.

Well, I missed another Monday post, which is mostly fine because I didn't do anything worth recapping all weekend, unless you consider "packing, eating mac & cheese, and binge watching The Hills" a productive weekend. I mean, I think it was a GREAT weekend, but I might be the only one. And here is this post, going up at 2pm. Priorities, I have them.

Anyway, I could tell you all about how everything is up-in-the-air and stressful and worrisome in my life and all that, but I'm not. In an effort to stop wallowing, I'm going to tell you about all the things that have happened in the last 48 hours that make me pretty freakin' happy.

1) Um, Garrett is here. With me. In North Carolina. For good. We don't move for another week and a half, but this is a Very Big Deal.

2) I have sparkly shoes on today. It's kind of hard to be in a bad mood when you have sparkly shoes on, right?

3) I found my emergency gummy worms in my desk drawer today. I thought they were all gone, BUT THEY WEREN'T!!!!!! (They're gone NOW, but that's not the point.)

4) When I fixed a salad for lunch today, I got the lettuce/cheese/dressing/veggies ratios JUST RIGHT. You know how sometimes when you make a salad, you run out of toppings, but you still have a few bites of lettuce left? That's the worst, right?

5) #4 and #5 right beside each other. Are you laughing? I'm laughing.

6) I think we're going to go with this cover for the couch we got. I TOLD you guys it was going to be crazy, right? It's not what I was originally picturing, but I think it'll be cool in our apartment where all the walls and all the carpet are boring and plain, don't you?

7) Speaking of our apartment, we finally have all the furniture we need! The couch was the last big thing on our list, so now that we have that, we're good to go! It'll be a while before it's decorated (to my standards, anyway), but we have a place to sleep, a place to eat and a place to watch TV, so I can't really complain, right?

8) Pixie pants from J. Crew. Do any of you guys wear them? They will change your life.

9) When I was at Target the other day, I discovered that French Bull partnered with several companies and there are APPLIANCES to match the tray that I have. Amazing, right? Amazing.

10) Bright orange nail polish. I love it.... no, I'm OBSESSED with it. #nofilter, and stuff.

That's a pretty good roundup, right? Things are stressful, but things are still pretty great. Hope you guys are doing GREAT too!!! I miss you.

Thanks to everyone who's checked in about my grandfather.. Things are improving slowly but steadily. Thanks for all your good thoughts!!!

The Sunday Currently

Sitting at the hospital.
Reading uh, job descriptions. Really exciting stuff.
Hearing nothing right now. It's quiet. Tooooo quiet.
Looking at covers for the IKEA couch we're getting from Jenna and Andy! Trying to decide if we should go neutral or crazy. I'm thinking crazy.
Planning how we're going to arrange everything at our new apartment! I have a floorplan pulled up and everything. Also trying to figure out how we're going to get everything into a small-ish kitchen.
Excited Garrett will be here tonight! Finally.
Wearing blue pants, because I am cool.
Typing well... nothing really, besides this post.
Feeling caffeinated.

We officially have an apartment and an address, you guys!!! We don't move for another few weeks, but we have an apartment, and it doesn't smell like cigarette smoke, and it is ours and it is perfect. I'm so excited!!!

Fridayyyyyy!!!

It was a pretty slow week in the Land of Hi, right? (I just made that up right now, but I'm totally sticking with it.) My grandpa is improving every day, so that's good news. Next week, I promise I'll be back on the blogging train 100%.
If you didn't see my review of Meghan McCain's book yesterday, you should read it.

I try to avoid asking for advice at all times, but either, way, here are six pieces of advice that are practically always wrong. In case you need something to do this afternoon, here's how to procrastinate your Friday away. Here are nine non-brunch Friend Dates. I like them, even though I looooooove Brunch. This person selling their mattress on Craigslist because their partner cheated on them on it is the most hilarious thing I've read in a while, so you should definitely read it too.

Glee has finally decided how to handle Cory Monteith's death. I haven't watched in a while, but I'll probably have to watch that one. In news that shouldn't HAVE to be said, but we'll say it anyway, better childcare improves birth rates, not limiting women's health. Who knew, right? Here's a list of things that look like feminism, but aren't. Take notes, people. Here's why we should stop hating on teenage girls, and I gotta say, I completely agree. In case

Um, I bought two bright pink pillows for the apartment yesterday. We don't have a couch yet, but we have pillows!!! Only two-ish more weeks until we move! There's still lots of coffee in the coffee pot. I have some really great things planned for the blog for August. It's Friday!!!
Finally, even though it's Friday, this camel commercial has seriously had me laughing all week, so if you haven't watched it yet, I implore you to do so.

Meghan McCain had dirty hair when she met Sarah Palin, true story.

What I Read: Dirty Sexy Politics by Meghan McCain

It should surprise exactly none of you that my political beliefs lean pretty far left. I hate calling myself a liberal or a democrat or anything else (just as much as I hate calling people conservatives or republicans) because those labels make politics seem so one-dimensional. All of those names can have such negative connotations, and honestly, who can honestly say all their beliefs lie 100% with one party? Not too many. I avoid them as much as I can. I guess that was kind of a tangent, but the point is that my high school boyfriend calling me a "flaming liberal" one day when I was seventeen and I never looked back.

I've always liked Meghan McCain. Truthfully, I always really liked John McCain until he ran for President. I always thought he was pretty open-minded and willing to work with people on all sides of the political spectrum. (I don't feel this way about him anymore, but that's another post for another day.) Meghan (I'm going to call her that because I think we'd be friends) is totally my kind of republican - she's firm and unapologetic in her beliefs, but is also realistic and honest about the pretty serious changes this country needs to make before we totally fall off the deep end, and understands that those changes are going to come through compromise and collaboration. I know there are plenty of republicans who are normal like this, but with the most popular vocal republicans (like Rush Limbaugh and Michele Bachmann and the Glenn Beck) becoming more and more polarizing every day, it's hard to remember that there are normal ones.

Meghan is as firmly pro-life as she is pro-gay marriage, and I think that's so important. This is how real people are, and it's DEFINITELY how a lot of young people are. People are multifaceted, multi-dimensional people. They're like onions! They have layers!! No one wants a party (political or otherwise) where their beliefs are shot down every time they don't line up with the popular guy's.

This book is essentially a memoir of her time on the 2008 campaign trail with her dad, so I was stoked to read it. The 2008 campaign was the first Presidential election that I voted in, so it will always have a special place in my heart.

She says in the beginning of the book that the book is a truly honest account of what happened on the campaign trail, and I gotta be honest - I believe it. I know there are things that she would never be able to talk about, and I'm not toootally convinced that her parents didn't read the book until it was published, but overall, this was an honest, raw account of what it's like to campaign with arguably the most watched Presidential campaign in history. It's also a pretty eye-opening account of what it's like to be a daughter of a prominent political figure. It's gotta be tough, and I know she's not perfect, but I think she handles the pressure well. I loved reading about the relationship she has with her dad. That's DEFINTELY real, and it reminded me of the relationship that I have with my own dad (minus the millionaire/Senator part, obvz).

Without getting into too much of a political rant, Meghan dropped truth bombs through the whole book, and I loved it. She discusses her pro-life stance, and how she believes that contraception and comprehensive health care go along with that. If you don't want someone to get an abortion, make sure they have ways to protect themselves from pregnancy, right? RIGHT? Why is this so easy for her, and you, and me to understand, and so hard for politicians?

One of the most interesting things that I learned in the book was that Meghan McCain learned who her dad had chosen as a running mate at the same time you and I did - on the news on some random Friday morning. Sarah Palin was obviously a big secret on the campaign... so secret that even John McCain's daughter wasn't in the loop. Crazy, right?! If my parents kept that big of a secret from me, I would die. I'm telling you. Homegirl is a way better person than me. And to fill you in on what the title of this post is all about, she was so upset the whole morning of the announcement that she forgot to even wash her hair. I think that's hilarious. Not that she was so upset, that's just totally something I would do. I would tooootally forget to wash my hair while I was in an emotionally compromised state. (See Megs? I'm telling you, we'd be friends.) It's just such a real moment to read about, and that's what I loved about the whole book. Love her her or hate her, she keeps it real.

Regardless of your political affiliation, I definitely think you should read this book. You'll love it, I'm sure of it. Have any of you read it yet, or her other book? I'm dying to read it next!!!
