Welcome to the Texas Senate, where everything is made up and the points don't matter.

I had a different post planned for today, but I just have to talk about this awesome woman right here.

In case you live under a rock/didn't get on any social networking sites yesterday, Wendy Davis attempted to filibuster a bill that was put forth in the Texas Senate that would severely limit access to abortions, birth control, cervical cancer screenings and other health care issues that women deal with every day.

Without getting into a debate about abortion, I think everything that happened last night was FASCINATING. I think Wendy Davis is incredible. I think Sens Kirk Watson, Rodney Ellis and Royce West are amazing for standing up for women and our rights.

The quote of the night, however, goes to Senator Leticia van de Putte, who says, after beint interrupted multiple times, "At what point must a female senator raise her hand or her voice to be heard over the male colleagues in the room?"

I could point out all the shady things that happened last night, but I won't. I'll just say that we're going to be talking about everything that happened last night for a really long time, and I'm so glad I got to watch it all unfold. WENDY DAVIS FOR ALL THE AWARDS.

EDIT: DOMA AND PROP 8 STRUCK DOWN TOO? THIS DAY IS THE BEST.

Amen, sister. This is one of those things that I can't believe wasn't bigger news! Just had to give the Cliff's Notes version to the Dean of the law school I work for because he didn't know the details. Regardless of anyone's stance on the issue, wasn't it cool to see real, live DEMOCRACY last night?

I don't care about what party she is in- she is great for who she is and what she stands for despite anything else! Love this post!

Wendy Davis wins the world while wearing pink sneakers.

Today is the best day ever for civil rights.

I had my post scheduled and was up until 2 watching that last night on YOUTUBE because the freaking major news outlets were asleep at the wheel, but I have a little Wendy blurb tomorrow on my Thursday Thoughts blog.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue (and I stand with Wendy), THAT was America and democracy in action last night.

Hey Alyssa, I don't watch the news (just SICK of it) but I agree with this post. It's important for us women to stick up for OUR bodies. Screw these 90 year old grumpy crotchety old geezers in government who think they know every damn thing about my breasts and vagina. No you don't. Not even close. Makes em sick. So happy that this world is FINALLY waking up and realizing that there are some serious changes that are happening and that will be happening soon. Our generation (80's and 90's) don't put up with this crap anymore. We are a generation who is UNDERSTANDING and ACCEPTING of others. We don't care if people are gay...we are used to it and it's our norm. Preach it lady. I'm about to tweet this!
